The easily removable laminated bamboo tsuba (hand guard) for bokken uses compression rings that seat into a chamfer milled into the tsuba. Any movement or impact during practice tends to compress the o-ring and lock it in place. Slide the first o-ring up to the transition step in your bokken, then slide the tsuba on (noting that the orientation of the blade matches that of the tsuba), then slide the second o-ring into place and work it into the outside tsuba chamfer.
