The Standard Iwama Bokken of Takemusu Aiki Aikido is 41" long, has a moderate curvature and, with its fairly stout proportions, has a feeling of decisive to heavy balance. The defining feature of this weapon is its solidness and simplicity. The Iwama bokken is not used with a tsuba (hand guard) and does not have a clear distinction between the tsuka (hilt) and blade section. The user has considerable flexibility in hand spacing as the hilt extends to about 12" before becoming a clearly defined blade cross section. These weapons are shaped to the same specifications as the more expensive hand cut iwama bokken but is offered in wood grade levels 3 - 5 and have a more economical sanded finish.
