This is the 38 1/2 " long bokken specific to Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto Ryu, a classical old sword school, founded in the early Muromachi period by Iizasa Choisai Ienao. The Kingfisher Katori Bokken is made entirely without the use of sandpaper. It is finished with extremely sharp hand tools leaving many little smooth facets that creates its complex shape. Because the techniques of its manufacture are traditional and aspects of its shape and proportion are correct historically, it has the superior look and feel of the archaic bokken of feudal times.
